Point Roberts, Washington is located 30 miles north of Bellingham,
WA and 22 miles south of Vancouver, B.C., immediately adjacent to
the lower mainland community of Tsawwassen. An anomaly of politics
and geography, Point Roberts has saltwater on three sides and a
peninsula to the north connecting to Canada.
The drive from Bellingham takes less than an hour, other than
the wait at the border crossings. In order to cross the border, you
must carry proof of citizenship -- passport, or birth certificate
and government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s licence,
for each person in your vehicle. Children also require similar
proof of citizenship. If both parents are not accompanying a child
in the vehicle, you should carry a signed letter of consent from
the absent parent allowing you to take the child into or out of the
country.
This stop on the “What’s The Point?” Geo-tour
of Point Roberts begins at the posted coordinates above, where you
will find a convenient parking area while locating this cache. This
80-acre wooded county park in the centre of Point Roberts is
popular with mountain bikers, hikers, and other outdoor
enthusiasts.
Proceed north across an open grassy field to the main trailhead
location, and follow your GPSr from there to find the cache -- a
1.5 litre “lock and lock” along a small secondary trail
through the woods.
