Geocache Description:

This is a 2 stage multi.

James W. P. siding is a train siding that goes under highway 70 near this location. The rail line crosses under the highway two times in less than 1/4 mile here but goes almost one mile through a tunnel and around the hillside to the north. If your lucky and the train is long enough you can see the engine and the rear of the train at the same time as it goes around the loop. W. P. Or Western Pacific Railroad was in charge of relocating the main rail line before the dam was completed in Oroville and the original rail line was covered by 3,500,000 acre feet of water. James siding is the longest of 3 sidings at 7277 feet and was named for Aurthur Curtis James who was a major player in the building of Western Railroads in the early 1900's. He died in 1941. Parking for stage 1 is off Cherokee RD. Just southeast of Hwy 70.
