GEOCACHING HAMPTON ROADS


Join Geocaching Hampton Roads for our 13th Annual Picnic!

Saturday, September 5th, 2015

When: Saturday, September 5th (Labor Day Weekend)
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Where: Newport News Park
Who: Open to all geocachers, families, and anyone interested in geocaching.
What: A social get-together to meet fellow cachers, exchange stories, learn about different aspects of caching, swap TB's, oh yea, and some caching thrown in there too!


Newport News Park is an 8,000 acre park with two fresh water reservoirs is one of the largest municipal parks east of the Mississippi. It features bicycle and boat rental, 188-site campground, golf course, horse show arena, interpretive programs, wildlife rehabilitation center, picnic shelters, playground, restrooms, stages, 30 miles of hiking trails, 5-mile mountain bike trail, and 5.3 mile bikeway, picnic shelters, and much much more!!! Personal boats (no gas motors) may be launched for a $4.00 fee.

Join us for Games, Vendors, Information sessions, LUNCH and much more! Event time will be from 9:00 - 5:00 (As well as other events throughout the weekend!)

EVENT SCHEDULE

9:00 - Event officially OPENS with the UNVEILING of the LOG!

10:00 - Opening Announcements and GROUP PICTURE with SIGNAL the FROG!

10:15 - Store Opens/Chance Auction Opens

10:30 - Morning Games Begin (See below for detailed schedule)

All Day - Sacred Friends Wildlife Rehab Q&A at their booth

10:30 - 11:30 - GCHR Concierge - GSAK Help and local information with SNAP

11:30 - 1:00 - LUNCH (Meal Ticket Required)

12:30 - 1:30 - “Meet a Lackey/Ask a Reviewer” Arne (aka RandolphAgarn) from Groundspeak  and volunteer reviewers: MonkeyBrad, NC Reviewer and Dogwood Reviewer,

1:00 - Start of Door prize drawings - Check the board near Registration Booth for winning numbers

1:00 - 2:00 - GCHR Concierge - GSAK help and local information with SNAP

1:00 - 2:00 - Tips for camouflaging containers.  GrandpaGene gives some tips on how to make that container blend in a little better and what does and does not make a “good” cache container.

1:30 - “GeoSurvivor” Game starts

4:00 - Chance Auction Winners

         Announce Winners of Games

         Any Unclaimed Door Prizes will be redrawn

5:00 - Event ends/Clean up begins


2015 GCHR PICNIC GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

All winners will be announced and Prizes awarded the closing ceremonies.
My Cache Is Better Than Your Cache
Make/design (at home) a crafty, devious, unusual, indescribable cache container.
Bring it to the Activities Booth where you will be given a number for your entry.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd

10:00 – 11:30 Deadline for all submissions.
11:30 – 2:30 Voting Time

Everyone gets three FREE “Favorite Points” for voting at the Activities Booth. 1 ticket = 1 point.
“Favorite Point tickets” will be in the registration packages.

2:30 Deadline to turn in your completed bingo sheet at Activities Booth.

Egg Raffle
Back by popular demand! Buy an egg and see if it holds coordinates to a container hidden nearby. The container is yours to keep! Not all eggs will contain coordinates, but take a chance and have some fun. Containers will include bison tubes, lock and lock, ammo cans and more! Available until all eggs are sold!

Bubble Station - 10:30 AM – 3:00

Graffiti Board - 10:30 AM – 3:00

GAME TIME - 10:30 – 12:00
Ammo Can Toss - Toss Ammo Can for Distance – All Age
4 sizes of ammo cansMicro Can – Kid’s 4 and under
Small Can – Kids 5 -10, women
Regular Can – Guys 11 up
Manly-Man Can – open to all – This is the Ammo Can to top all Ammo Cans
Prizes for the farthest throw in each category.
Toss off at High Noon in case of a tie.

Pole Cache – Toss Cache to the Pole – All Ages
Toss a weighted cache (pill bottle size) towards the pole.
Prizes for the “closest to the pole” (10 and under, everyone else)
“Kid line” for 10 years old and under.
Toss off at High Noon in case of a tie.

Bag a Smiley – All Ages
Toss smiley bags through cache container holes in a board for points.
Large – 5 points, Small – 10 points, Micro 15 points
6 Tosses (first one doesn’t count)
Prize for the most “points” bagged (10 and under, everyone else).
“Kid line” for 10 years old and under.
Toss off at High Noon in case of a tie.

Geo-Survivor – A 3 Stage Multi for 2 Person Teams (12 years old and up)
10:30 to 1:00 – Team Sign Up @ Activities Booth.

1/2 of the players from first stage move on to the second stage
Eight teams compete in the final stage.
