Geocache Description:

Welcome to Tabor Woods - Alien Invasion

Recently I was in the area looking for a cache that I still had in my GPS, but had been archived. I felt this was a great area for a new cache and got permission from Fran Martin, President on the Caledonia Conservancy, which maintains this area. She asks that if you see horseback riders on the trails that you say "hi" so the horses and riders know you are there.

While thinking of the theme, I decided to fill the cache with a bunch of invading visitors, which reminds me of where my two children collected them years ago at our YMCA Y-Tribes Winter campout at the Saturday night carnival. All of the kids at the carnival running around were like the invading aliens.

I've been on a daily find streak for over 400 straight days, and due to financial and time considerations, I'm probably ending the streak once the snow starts flying. Trying to find enough winter friendly caches nearby will be a difficult chore for a second straight winter, but I've been noticing a number of others in the area working on streaks, so I'm planning to help them out throughout the winter as many others did for me this past winter. I can't tell you how nice it was in February and March when new winter friendly caches came out. I'm hoping this one fits the bill, even though the hike to the area in the snow could cause a challange. Please replace and hide the cache as found as best you can.

My GPS map didn't have the last two streets to get to the trail entry way for this area, so to help, enter on Mary Drew Drive, take a left onto Medley Drive and then take a right onto Pine Tree Circle. The trail path is located at N42. 48.549 W087. 50.480.

Update: The path at the trailhead coordinates has been closed to vehicles for the winter. I'm not sure if it's okay to park on the street here and walk it, but I'm guessing you can. I found out there is a trailhead with a small parking area to the south of the hide location. Follow Medley Drive to the south to Tabor Road and head west to the end. I'm not sure if the parking spots are plowed in the winter. The walk to the hide is about .25 of a mile.

Jan 6, 2012 Update: I was notified last weekend that my ammo box was missing for this one, but that the log book and plastic bag were still in place. I guess that's the last time I use an ammo box. These woods are decent size and I find it hard to believe that some kids would just happen upon the hide location. I'm hoping it wasn't a cacher that felt they needed an ammo box, but since the log and bag weren't destroyed, I'm not sure what to think. So I decided to go green and recycle a container for the new hide and me and my puppy (Ginger) took a walk out there to place it.
