Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES!

This is the final in a series of 10 geocaches, each of which features a hike in the Salt Lake area hills and mountains.  To determine the coordinates of the cache, you will need to complete the first nine hikes.  Note:  The 5/5 rating of this cache is due to the fact that 10 moderately difficult hikes are required to find it.  This cache by itself would get about a 2/3 rating.

Monumentally Mountainous Ongoing Geocache

Unlike the original MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game), this one will get you out of the house, away from the computer and earning a lot of fitness points.

The 10 hikes are located in the mountains east and north of Salt Lake City and are generally relatively low in altitude, so they should make great spring outings.  The first nine hikes are individual geocaches which you can log.  After visiting all nine caches, you will have the information required to complete an easy puzzle which will lead you to this cache, the final in the series.

Here are links to each of the caches:

A Brave Mountaineers  (Archived! The answer is 68)

B Above U All

C Beyond the Beacon

D Killyon Lefty  (Originally Pinecrest Open Lands)

E The Spine of Grandeur

F UteTopia

G Pinecrest Everest

H Gulch Arch  (Originally The Arch at Rattlesnake Gulch)

I Summit

Now for the puzzle.  At the end of this listing, you will find 15 photographs.  One photo was taken at each of the individual cache sites listed above.  The remaining six are there just to keep things interesting (and to ensure that all the hikes must be completed without defaulting the last one) (and to discourage programming a solution).  The photos are in a random order.

When you reach each geocache site, look around and try to locate the scene or object from one of the photos.  Hint:  Print them all out and take them along on each hike.  Each scene can be located within 100 feet of the cache.  For the multicaches in the list, the scene is close to the final.

When you identify which photo is related to the cache you are visiting, write the number next to the photo in the box next to the cache's name in the list above.  This will get the numbers you need in the correct order.  When you have all the numbers filled in, proceed as follows to determine the coordinates of the final MMOG cache:

(AABB * CC) - (DDEE * FF) - GG = NNNNN

(DDAABB - EEDDBB) - (DD * DD * BB) + HHII = WWWWW

MMOG-10 is at:

N  40 NN.NNN

W 111 WW.WWW

I have attempted to ensure that all 10 geocaches are relatively accessible year-round, including in snowy conditions (no guarantees, though).  The final cache is an ammo box.

One more photo, which could snag you a great prize:

What is it?  What is it for?  You will find the answer in MMOG-10.  If you email me the correct answer along with the code number and a mailing address, I will send you a prize.  The code number is intended to thwart those who think they already know what it is.

!!!  FTF Prize:  A $15 gift certificate to REI  !!!

Creating this series was a way of marking my 50th birthday this year.  I thoroughly enjoyed the approximately 275 hours spent in planning, hiking, writing, photography and testing.  Hopefully, no errors have slipped through, but if you encounter anything questionable, please let me know and I will attempt to correct it promptly.

I hope you enjoy it as much a I did.
