Geocache Description:

Microcache (35mm film tub) hidden at the western end of Loch Iorsa on the Isle of Arran. The walk to the loch starts off on a raised beach, passes through a broadleaved woodland before entering the glaciated wilderness of Glen Iorsa.

Though Loch Iorsa is not the largest loch on the Isle of Arran it is one of the few to contain islands. The location itself is marvelously remote, in the base of the great glacial trough of Glen Iorsa which cuts right through the northern mountains of the island. To the west the valley sides rise over 500m while to the east the ridge line of from Beinn Nuis to Caisteal Abhain is consistently close to 800m. The name Iorsa is dervived from the Norse hors a the sword water, and the Iorsa Water is the largest river on the island. The river has its source at Loch na Davie which sits on the col with Glen Easan and water from that tiny lochan also runs northward into the River Easan from which the water supply of the Isle of Arran Distillery is drawn.
