Geocache Description:

A small cache not too far from Entwistle Reservoir.

“Toby’s Treasure Trail 9” is one of a series of caches around Entwistle Reservoir (we may increase the number at some point, but not for the next few weeks). This is one of Toby’s favourite places to come for a walk, and not just because there is often bread lying around where people have been feeding the ducks!!

Caches 1 to 6 were set on 24 February 2007, and caches 7 to 11 on 25 February 2007. Numbers 7 to 11 are a little further away from the reservoir than numbers 1 to 6.

The reservoir was built in 1832 and has a capacity of 726 million gallons, but more importantly there are (in our opinion) some breathtaking views. It is often busy on the path around the water, but a couple of the series have been placed to take you onto a few of the other paths, which in our experience can be a little quieter.

The main paths are suitable for off road buggies and bikes, but you will have to leave the path to get some of the caches, although you should never be too far from it. You should note that depending on the route you take, caches 8 to 11 will involve some fairly steep (but short) slopes up and down. As a guide, when we placed the caches we had NanoJug with us in his three wheeler, and we managed to get round.

You could park at the co-ordinates given below and do a circular walk of around about four miles, during which you should be able to get all of the caches, and a couple of others set by other cachers. Co-ordinates for alternative parking, next to the reservoir, are given on the cache pages for numbers 1 to 6.

When placed (25 February 2007), caches 7 to 11, all of which are small, contained a few toys: nothing spectacular I’m afraid, because for us, the joy is in being around this area, so signing the log book is enough.

There isn’t a FTF prize in each cache: like with the first six when they were placed, the prize is for the first person to find all five caches from 7 to 11. In each cache you will find a slip with a number on: make a note of that number, but please play fairly and do not remove the slip. Once you have found all five caches; total the five numbers you should have collected and send that total to us by contacting us through our profile. Once we have checked that you have signed all the cache logs in person we will arrange to send you your prize. We haven’t decided what it will be yet!

Anyway, enjoy the trail; and if you bump into a muddy labrador / retriever cross on your way round, ask him if his name is Toby!

Specific comment about this cache: Not too far from the recommended parking below, quick find if you wanted to do it on its own.
