The quest for caches across the Nation's Capital is on again and
we're counting on you to join in on the adventure! You need to
gather all your skill as a geocacher to avoid the pitfalls while
night caching, dodge giant mosquitoes out for blood, protect
yourself against treacherous booby traps such as poison ivy, mud
puddles and skin piecing thorns, and follow your trusty arrow to as
many treasures as you can find in a 24 hour period.
Canada's Capital Cachers presents...
Most of you seasoned adventurers already know how this works,
but for those whose fedora still has that new hat smell, or for the
ones who've completed so many quests that now have a hard time
remembering where they left their whip, here are the rules:
- Everyone who wishes to participate in this event should head
out to find as many GAG12 caches as they can from 6:00 PM, June
27th until 6:00 PM on the 28th. Don't get caught starting before
6:00 PM or you will be the victim of much taunting and
ridicule!
- At 6:00 PM on the 28th after a LONG day of caching, we will
meet at Vincent-Massey park near the intersection of Heron Road and
Riverside Drive (posted coordinates). BBQ pits (filled with hot
coals) and maybe some more modern contraptions will be available to
grill whatever you choose to bring. Yes, in order to keep costs
down for everyone, it is a bring your own food and drinks
event!
IMPORTANT NOTE : no alcoholic beverages allowed in
Vincent-Massey park.
- If you want to contribute by creating a cache (that is
totally optional and up to you, keep in mind that all the usual
cache listing guidelines apply and that you will have to maintain
the cache afterwards... it is not just for the duration of the
event), between now and June 26th, hide a cache in the Ottawa
area. Please don’t wait until the last minute; give the reviewers
plenty of time to post all caches and our volunteers time to create
a bookmark list. All caches placed for the event will be published
on Thursday evening so you can plan your routes and solve the
puzzles.
- You should state on your cache page that your cache should not
be found until after 6:00 p.m., June 27th and any logs before then
will be deleted. Please help with cache identification by prefacing
your cache name with GAG12, i.e. " GAG12 - The Giant
Mosquitoes".
- You may want to consider hiding just one cache to keep the work
down for the reviewers. Also, if you're placing a multi-cache
and/or puzzle, but sure to use the "additional waypoints" feature
on the cache creation page to allow reviewers quicker access to
determining boundary limitations. The quicker they can get their
job done, the more likely your cache will get published in time for
the event. Note that most people want to find many caches during a
GAG event, so multi-caches and/or puzzles that take several hours
to solve are not usually very popular. If you're planning a long
multi make it explicit in the cache description.
- It would be great if you could bring a door prize along, and if
you will have children with you (or are one at heart), it would be
wonderful if you could bring a kid's prize as well. All kids (big
and small) like to go home with prizes, and they always look
forward to that part of the evening.
- If you have any ideas to add to this event, please send us
an email and we will try to incorporate them.
- Please post a note on this page indicating if you can make it
and how many will be in your party.
- Please email us if you want to volunteer. We will do our best
to find some work for you.
- All caches will be listed as a bookmark link on this page just
prior to the event. If you have any questions, please send us an
email.
Happy hiding and seeking! See you on the 28th or on the
trails....
This page will be updated, keep watching it!
