Geocache Description:

NIGHT CACHE WARNING!
This cache is designed to be completed at night and requires a flashlight and/or BFL to follow the path.

This round trip NIGHT HIKE of around 4km will bring you on a tour through the Palgrave Conservation Area.

Parking is available at the entrance of the conservation area off Highway 50 at N43 57.300 W79 50.658. Park your vehicle in the main lot past the gate or in the overflow parking lot located 300m to the South. From the gate, proceed up the trail to the listed coordinates where you will enter a former parking lot which is now a large open field. You will begin your adventure from here.

About your guides:

Canadian Cyclopes vary greatly from their Greek counterparts in that they are not of humanoid form, evolving instead from the dominant species of the area, trees. They are intelligent but mischievous. They will shepherd you to the cache, but be careful; they will also try to confuse you!

The Triclopes are three-eyed minions of the Cyclopes. They tend to attach themselves to their masters just above the Cyclopian's lone eye. Though not as clever as the Cyclopes, the Triclopes have a very interesting ability: their triangular eye formation will orient to point in the direction of any object their master is thinking of. In addition, a route, made up of pairs of eyes projected onto non-cyclopian trees at fairly regular intervals and culminating in a diamond eye pattern indicating the target's location, is created telepathically by the Triclops.

Follow the instructions below to locate the cache:
  • While standing in the center of the clearing, use your flashlight to search for the Cyclops watching you from the East. He will lead you to a white reflector blazed trail.
  • Follow the trail until you are directed to leave the path by a Triclops.
  • Follow the route the Triclops has created until you reach your target, which consists of a redirect tag with the coordinates of the next leg of your journey.
  • If you look around carefully, the Cyclopes will always lead you to the best way to get to your next destination.
  • You will need to find four Triclopes in total. Three will show you to the redirect tags, and the last one will lead you to the cache itself.
  • If you ignore these instructions, or fail to follow them carefully, you may be in for quite a long hike, as the entire loop is over 8KM long, and you could very well go home empty-handed.

The cache is a camouflage painted ammo can hidden within 2 meters of the final target.

NOTES:
  1. Night raid friendly... (Actually, it's kind of REQUIRED!)
  2. Winter friendly, though the final will be under some snow.
  3. Family friendly.
  4. Bicycles encouraged. (You're following singletrack after all!)
