Ancient cultures believed all things were made of four elements: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. From these beliefs, elaborate tales and rituals evolved. Native Americans used these elements in their rites of passage and often the true test of a person’s spirit was their ability to conquer each element. Tribes such as the Blackfoot, Mohican, Shawnee, Arapaho, Apache, Navaho, Lakoda, Comanche, Hopi and Shoshone all developed eloborate rituals that incorporated these elements.
This cache is meant to test you physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is not easy. In fact, this cache can be extremely dangerous. DO NOT assume any warnings herein are made in jest. Take your time, reflect on each element the stage is trying to convey. I promise a sense of exhilaration and accomplishment upon completion.
This is a 4 stage multi-cache with all stages located within 4 miles. Each stage will bring you into a unique environment meant to challenge. Stages grow progressively more challenging. At each intermediate stage you are seeking coordinates to the next stage. These coordinates are printed on laminated placards you must locate and interpret. There is an additional bit of information on each placard required to be able to sign the logbook. Please record that information as you will require it at the final. The final cache is in plain sight.
There are a couple of additional twists but no need to fret. Within 50 feet of each placard is a Rosetta to aid you if you find a little help necessary. The question you must ask: "Is the Rosetta worth it"? If not, the coordinates of the South Granville Public Library are: N36 08 544 W78 43 299 You can find answers there.
Important Notice:
Plan at least 2 hours to complete this cache. It may take much longer, and require multi-visits. This cache will expose you to darkness, heights, water, wildlife, and wilderness. If any of these terrify you, this is not the cache for you. You will get dirty, bruised, wet and frustrated during this cache.
Required items:
o Vehicle – You will want to drive between stages.
o Flashlight – Can’t complete one stage without it.
o Climbing harness with a short length of GOOD safety rope and at least one carabineer.
o Long pants and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
o Gloves.
Suggested items:
o Partner – I don’t recommend doing this one alone.
o 50 feet of rope.
o Change of clothes.
o Camera.
o Water and snacks.
o Native American numerologist.
You will probably not encounter other people while on this hunt, but if by chance, non-geocachers are in the area, please wait until they leave before you hunt. The final stage may be inaccessible after periods of heavy rain. It should still be visible. You must use your own judgment.
