Beware! The Farley Mount Highwayman is on the prowl! I've made this a simple cache because when you hear the tale of the Farley Mount Highwayman you'll not want to hang around!
Dare ye tread the paths of Farley Mount after dark? If you hear the snapping of twigs behind you, don’t look round! Run for your life! The ghost of Evil Tom is on the prowl! A highwayman of ill repute, even among the thieves and murderers of Old Winchester. One fateful night Evil Tom was bearded in his den in the woods of Farley Mount. Surrounded by twenty riflemen of the Kings Guards he fought his way out, felling fifteen brave soldiers. The remaining five soldiers hunted him through the ancient trees, dodging his desperate shots. They eventually trapped him when he ran into a bramble patch. With his last shot he put his pistol to his head, but a quick-thinking rifleman shot the pistol from his hand.They hanged him at dawn, throwing the rope over the highest sturdy branch of the greatest tree they could find and sitting him on his horse. With a slap to the rump, the horse was his final executioner.His ghost still haunts those woods, and some say he now has the power to change shape. Some even say they’ve seen a huge black cat prowling the woods thereabouts…The tree fell down some time ago, but its exposed roots conceal the hiding place of Evil Tom’s ill gotten gains…
