Geocache Description:

The cache is located by a stream just a couple of miles outside of the Mount Baker National Forest.

This is a drive by cache… kind of. The only hitch is it is 12 miles down an unimproved county road that bisects the old Snoqualmie tree farm.

By unimproved road I mean there are plenty of potholes, bumps, and dust. Any car with 5 good tires can make it here, but going more than 20 Mph is pushing it. It will take nearly an hour each way. The elevation is only 1500 feet so you shouldn’t have snow problems except in the dead of winter.

Be warned this is a working forest with plenty of areas that are clear-cut and recently planted (30 years or less). But that doesn’t stop the wildlife, nor should it stop you from enjoying a Sunday drive.

When I planted this cache I was unaware there where two other caches along the way. You can make it a day and get all three. The first is a short level walk to McLeod Lake Cache, the second is a bit longer walk to the Maud Lake Viewpoint. They should not add more than and hour, or two, to the trip.

Driving Directions:
Take I-90 to exit 31 (North Bend) and head north into town.
Turn right on North Bend way.
Two blocks later turn left on Balarat.
Then just keep going.
The road will turn into SE 108th Street (enjoy the Mt. Si view), then 428th Ave. SE, then the North Fork Road.
When you get to N47 32.205 W121 45.034 veer left and up past the Dead End sign.
At N47 32.399 W121 44.555 you will find an open gate. Say goodbye to the pavement.

About the “Drive In The Woods” cache series:
I like to take long drives in the woods and did it a lot before caching prompted me to start hiking. But hiking is not for everyone so this series is intended to get you into the woods without needing a backpack. Most cars can drive forest service roads just fine, but high clearance, and 4-wheel drive, are a plus for the type of roads that I like. But I don’t really know how to rate the terrain, they are not physically demanding, but do require some driving skill.

Here are the other caches in this series:

A Drive In The Woods #3 - Mine creek
A Drive In The Woods #4 - The Falls
A Drive In The Woods #5 - A River Runs Through It
A Drive In The Woods #6 - No. Fork Falls
