Getting up to about 900' go via 4x4 or hike. This is a nice scenic spot but beware of the steep terrain.
The settling of Waterboro was slow because of the Revolutionary War. In 1784 there were 184 people in town. At that time there was a rough logging road running on the west side of Massabesic (now Shaker Pond) to the Old Corner, where it forked, one branch running to Carles Corner (Ossipee Hill Road) and the other going to Ross Corner (West Road).
