Letterboxing Hewitt ~ Goldfinch Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

What is the significance of the Goldfinch?

This series involves state symbols of New Jersey. The handcarved stamp in this cache is a Goldfinch.
The eastern goldfinch (Carduelis tristis), now refered to as the American Goldfinch was adopted as the official state bird of New Jersey by an act of the One Hundred and Fifty-ninth Legislature of the State of New Jersey on June 27, 1935.

This cache is at the posted coordinates and is just off the Orange Trail (so watch for muggles). When you find this cache, take note of the laminated sheet in it. It will have several clues, when combined with the clues found in GC1P094 and GC1P095 will lead you to Letterboxing Hewitt ~ Navigation GC1P098

If you want the shortest walk (still a few miles), do these caches in a clockwise loop, following trails. A topographical map is highly recommended if you plan on finding the final. NYNJTC trailmap #116 is a good choice (especially if you don't have topo maps on your GPS) The old #21 will work too.

Be prepared to do some math. A pad, paper, and calculator will come in handy. If you don't like math (or return trips) tracing paper may also be useful as I've provided a "cheat" in each container. Do not take the laminated clue sheet.

Please, also, do not trade for the stamp!
It's an integral part of the letterbox, without which this isn't a letterbox hybrid. Please also be mindful that this container is cross-listed on letterboxing sites, and may be found by letterboxers as well as geocachers. In letterboxing, there is a concept similar to travel bugs. They are called "hitchhikers" and travel from letterbox to letterbox. These will usually be a small container or bag with a stamp and log book, and are often labeled "hitchhiker" There is no tracking code on this object and it will not say "trackable at geocaching.com" If you happen to find one of these in the cache please leave it behind for the next letterboxer to move along. Just like TB owners, the letterboxer that owns the hitchiker is watching and will be sad if it goes missing. Thanks :)
