Geocache Description:

The Newton Free Library is hosting an introduction to Geocaching event! This is part of a series of library events dedicated to the community wide Newton Reads program.  In the book “The Beginning of Everything” by Robin Schneider, the two main characters, Ezra and Cassidy, go geocaching.

The library will be setting up 1-2 new geocaches in the immediate area on the day of the event and also be creating an inside treasure hunt that takes people around the library.

We’d like to extend an invitation to any geocachers in Newton and beyond to come to the library, find our two new caches, participate in the scavenger hunt (if you want), but more importantly hangout and share your geocaching experiences with us and all the brand new geocachers that come to the event. It starts at 3:30 and ends at 5:30

This is also an alert to all cache owners in Newton. There may be an influx of new geocachers in the area so if you’ve been meaning to check on your caches, this may be the opportune time to do so.

We’d also like to ask if anyone wants to volunteer at the event, we may need some more helpers. The idea is to split new cachers up into groups of 3-4 and send them on a hunt for the 1-2 new caches the library sets up and 2 others that are already there that are near the library. We’d like someone to go with each of the groups that knows where the caches are already located so if they need some help finding them someone will be there. We all know how frustrating it is when you first start out and you get a DNF.

So if you’d like to volunteer please contact either Jenna Weathers at jweathers@minlib.net or Sara Levine slevine@minlib.net and we will discuss the details with you.
