This area is an area i am very familiar with When the town recieved the land it was on the condition that the land be open to the public within one year. That was many many years ago. There is no need to jump the gate with the no tresspassing sign. There are two lockless gates behind the library where you can acsess the area from. At one point i actual worked on a project for the area developing it into a more "friendly" public park. of course lack of funds ended that idea, but the area is still open to the public. The rectangular cement building is an old indoor shooting range for the police department. parking at N41 51.186 w71 19.793
in refrence to the no tresspassing sign:
Hi Seth,
That parcel of land is under the stewardship of the Seekonk Conservation Commission and is open to the public for “passive recreation uses”. As long as all visitors respect the natural resources and don’t leave “permanent” caches (which could just become litter) I don’t see a problem with it. The land directly behind the Library is an old municipal landfill that was never capped so that area is restricted. Also, the Seekonk Water District’s land is adjacent to the Commission’s land and that is not open to the public.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
