The Fox Hill Micro Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Dosido: I went up to retrieve the Fox Hill Micro cache today. Since I'm archiving this one, I guess I can spill the beans. I picked up the ammo can, and pieces of 7 of the 12 magnetic altoids containers that used to be attached to the ammo can.
I went up to the top of Fox Hill and found 2 more containers, but no log book. The only trinkets left were a set of spiderman magnifying glasses, a monkey and toy dino.
Thankfully, there were no travel bugs taking up residence in the cache.
I guess if the kids that destroyed the cache had fun doing so, the cache did it's job [:(!]
Thanks to all who visited! Look for Fox Hill Reloaded coming to mountain near you this summer!

Geocache Description:

Introduction
This cache represents my first foray into the micro cache world. This cache is being placed as a requirement of my FTF at Wick-A-Qua-Way where I picked up the Geo-Bob Geocoin which states that the FTF of the micro cache must place a new micro cache within 30 days and place the geocoin as a FTF 'prize'.

Now, those who know me know that I have a fair disdain for micros. I've done a few decent ones - maybe even one or two good ones, but by and large, I don't understand the appeal. However, I had an idea for a micro cache, and decided that if I was to get this geocoin as a FTF prize, I would put out my first (and only) micro cache, as I thought I had a little bit of a 'twist' on your garden variety micro cache.

The Cache
So, this geocache is put out for those who dislike micro caches. Have kids (like me) that won't stand for micros? My 5 year old, Alexa, approved this cache. Don't like hiking into the woods only to have to look for a micro? Hopefully this one will change your mind. Simply think all micros stink? Maybe this will be the one micro you couldn't help but smile about.

All that said, you will be looking for a magnetic Altoids container. Keep an open mind, now... Oh, and signing the logbook is required - 'seeing' the container isn't enough.

Even if all I've said doesn't pique your micro-hating interest, you will absolutely love the location. The views are stunning, and the topology of the area is really cool. If you have kids that are adventurous, plan on sticking around here for awhile. Need a lunch/dinner/snack spot? This one is hard to beat.

This cache is part of the Palmer 'high peaks' series: What Can You See from Here?- Mount Dumplin (741 ft), Pattaquattic Hill- (1,094 ft), The Colonel's Cache- Colonel's Mountain (1,167 ft), The Fox Hill Micro - Fox Hill (1,010 ft)
(fellow cacher Tomnmillie and I have joked about bagging the Palmer 700s - maybe that can become a reality for you too now!)
Interestingly from the summit (at least now, before the leaves are all out!) you can see Pattaquattic Hill, Colonel's Mountain, Devil's Peak and Mark's Mountain, all which have or had caches on them!

Feel free to trade if you brought your stuff - assuming the trades will fit - there are a couple of items to choose from that I placed in the cache. In addition, I dropped off a new TB near the cache (you can probably reuse the method to drop off other TBs as well, if they are small enough)

FTF Stuff
There is a FTF pin included in the cache, along with the Geo-Bob geocoin, that will require you place a new micro cache. I've seen some people duck out of the FTF race due to this geocoin. Come on, step up - if I could do it, so can you! (And really, now...can I force you to take the Geo-Bob coin??)

The Rest
While you will be looking for a magnetic Altoids can, it shouldn't be too tough to find - I'd wager due to the location (and remember, it's MAGNETIC) it won't be any worse than your run of the mill ammo can find. No hints just yet - but - if you think you might get hurt looking for this cache, you're not looking in the right spot!

Follow the trails to the summit and take in the views of West Warren. The cache location, however, isn't at the summit of Fox Hill - it's about 140 feet south - as I wanted to take you to this fantastic area - make sure after you find the cache that you walk east down the rock and admire the view - then look back at the cache location - the rock formation is very impressive. (You can descend to take a closer look at the rocks, and walk out southwest to pickup the trail back to the parking area)

The hike to the top will take you around 10 minutes - about .35 miles in, and an elevation gain of only about 50 feet from the parking lot!

I've hiked many, many places in Palmer, and this is definitely one of the most beautiful and memorable locations I've been to in town - I hope you enjoy the walk.
