For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has helped youth become more that they ever thought possible. And we'll continue that journey into the next century.
The Boy Scout program in the US began in 1910 and currently is open to boys ages 11-18. Boys learn and grow through the experiences of camping, hiking, building projects and community service. Scouting fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of accountability, and teamwork. It's also a lot of fun! The skills learned in Scouting help young men overcome obstacles and challenges with courage and character throughout their lives. Geocaching offers a new opportunity for the Boy Scouts to experience the outdoors while honing their Scouting skills. This cache is placed in honor of all young people in hopes that they will also take this opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.
Camp Alpine was first opened in the 1940's as a gift from the Rockefeller Foundation. The camp is 500 acres and offers weekend camping facilities, a training center, a cub scout summer camp and miles of pristine woods.
The cache is located in a public area of the camp. The area beyond the parking lot is off limits to the general public.
The cache is an ammo box and contains Scouting swag. Please trade items and return cache back to its hiding place. If cache hiding spot has been compromised, please take a few minutes and gather some nearby natural materials and rebuild a geopile. Courtesy for both scouts and cachers is to leave it better than you found it.
As tempting as it is, DO NOT leave travel bugs/coins in here. They tend to disappear to scouting muggles.
Cache is placed on council property by the council with permission of Bob Madsen, Director of Support Services and former Director Camping Services.
