This cache is the second in a series of puzzle caches celebrating (or if you prefer, lamenting) the start of a new school year - Back to School or B2S for short. Each one is placed near a school and has a theme centered on a particular school subject. In order to find the last one you will have to know the coordinates of all of the others. We hope you enjoy this series as much as we did creating it.

Second Period: Geography

I remember an interesting thing I learned when I was growing up. My mother was a 5th grade teacher in the public school system in Muncie, Indiana. We lived on a large wooded lot in the tiny town of Cowan which was only about 5 miles from the school where she taught. At the end of every school year she had a party for her students at our house. One year, coincidently I think it was the year I was in the 5th grade at Cowan Elementary, I was chatting with one of her students and the student floored me by telling me that this was the farthest she had ever been from home. At the time Muncie was about the 10th largest city in Indiana with a population of around 60,000.

I realized at that time, how lucky I was compared to this girl whose travels had not taken her very far. I had traveled much farther than that with my family and as a result I had seen things and places this unfortunate girl could have only dreamed of.

One of the best ways to study geography is to travel. I am not a world traveler by any stretch of the imagination, but I have been all over the United States of America. Some of the more memorable places I've been are: Amarillo, Las Vegas, Laredo, Alberquerque, Cheyenne, San Diego, Carson City, Sacremento, El Paso, and Helena. Please recognize that I said memorable not necesarily fun, exciting, or interesting.
