Geocache Description:

This cache is so you can see a bit of the past. As a grade schooler I remember our teacher talking about this grave sight. A special thanks to "Goldfinch" for sending me the info below about it. The cache is placed in such a way that the grave should not be disturbed in anyway. It is not on the grave sight. If you are interested in local history Al Barnes has several books about it.

“the grave of the first white child to die and be buried in this region.”

“The child’s name was William Leith, and you’ll notice the monument under the great white pine. He died in 1859 at the age of two years. The little marble tombstone that you see was brought into the area from Ohio by oxcart and then by overland trail. The parents came here to take part in the lumbering operation and the father was employed at a nearby mill at the time of the child’s death.”

From Let’s Fly Backward, by Al Barnes, pg 168-169.
