Geocache Description:

Coordinates posted are for Biofilter World. This is the recommended starting point. Follow the trail, and you will pass by the other waypoints. This is a field puzzle so read the instructions below, and arrive at GZ with some paper and pencil. You will find a map of Black Rock Sanctuary here: http://www.chesco.org/DocumentCenter/View/5551

“The Black Rock Sanctuary is located along a bend in the Schuylkill River, and was used by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a settling basin for coal silt dredged out of the river. The basin has become an important habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds, and today is a beautiful riverfront park. The Sanctuary contains 119 acres of wetlands, woodlands and meadows, and is dedicated to wildlife habitat and public use.  Discover the history, geology, wildlife, plant life and habitats of the basin by walking along the Interpretive Trail and visiting one of the many education stations along the way.”  (From Park website)

This cache is an 8 part multi-cache (counting the final) designed to take you on a tour of the interpretive trail.  All the information you need to generate the final set of coordinates can be found on the signs at each of the stops. The trail goes in a circle and will end close to the parking lot. I’ve attached a link above, to a PDF file map of the sanctuary showing the location of all the stops.  The asphalt trail is about 1 mile long, but it is mostly level. However, NO BIKES ALLOWED. Also, NO NIGHT CACHING. Park closes at dusk.

Here are the final cache coordinates:

N 40  0A.BCD     W 075 3E.FGH

A = number of lights shown at “traffic stop”, and add 5
B = number of humans shown on the “Biofilter" display on the fence
C = number of river tributaries listed, plus number of bays shown, plus add 1 at “watershed” (legend)
D = total number of houses shown on “Biofilter” display on the fence
E = number of flamingos shown at “Bird World” display
F = number of types of Rock discussed at “Geo World” display (in yellow background)
G = total number of pictures on both of the spinners at “Plant world”
H = find number of seasons discussed at Amphibian World, and subtract 3

The trail is stroller friendly and kid friendly.   The kids will be delighted at what they will find at “Bird World”.   There is also a bonus cache along the trail called Amphibian World at Black Rock Sanctuary (GC47Q7T).  Check out the cache write-up before you come.   The cache container contains things for kids.  If you have multiple kids along, please let them each take something, even if you have nothing to “trade”.  Write a note in your log when the supply runs low so I can replenish.

Bow hunting is allowed in other sections of the Sanctuary, but no hunting is permitted in the area where this cache trail will take you.  Park is open 8:00 AM until dusk.  Pets are allowed on a 6 foot leash.   Please check out the posted rules and regulations in the parking lot, or on the website listed below.

First to find prize is a Survival Kit in a Sardine Can.
