Geocache Description:

A camouflaged box hidden in Queens wood, Highgate. Access to the wood is 24/7 but probably not recommended at night. Off the path and up a slight slope, the area can get very muddy in wet weather.

Queens wood is fairly unique in being one of the last areas of the ancient woodland that covered Middlesex before the founding of London. Having been managed in victorian times it is now very much left alone with plenty of fallen trees and undergrowth to explore.

Popular with families there are several home made swings, tyres and tree camps around the area of the cache, although you probably use these at your own risk.

The difficulty rating is high due to the problems of GPS reception in heavy woodland, but you are looking for an area where children still play and a tree has seen better times in it's long life.

Originally hidden in 2008, after seven years the tree hiding the cache fell in a storm. The original container is still underneath! As part of the long-term management of these woods the fallen trees are left to decay and are facinating to study. The new hide is in a full height nearby tree.

Cache hidden on the feast of St Alban.
