When I first learned about Geocaching, I wanted to place a cache
near this tree. I see it every time I drive down the hill and into
town to run my errands.
The tree from the Jamul Drive trailhead.
The view to the southeast from the tree.
The tree is located very near two of three old mines in Jamul.
The entrances have been partially filled in now, but people who
grew up in Jamul remember when the openings were seven feet high
and you could walk right in.
You can still get inside the mines, if you are brave enough.
There is plenty of room to stand up and walk around once you crawl
through the small opening. The larger entrance is at N32° 44.029
W116° 52.114. The other, smaller entrance is just a few feet away
from the cache.
If you want to investigate the mines, take a very powerful
flashlight and take a camera with a flash to get pictures of what
the inside looks like.
The trails can be accessed from the Jamul Drive trailhead at
N32° 43.770 W116° 52.366 or from the Hidden Trail/Hidden
Wood/Hidden Ridge parking area near "
You Can Cache" (GCPMXD).
Please rehide the cache just as you found it.
