Want a great view of that geocaching jewel, Turkey Roost? If so, get to this cache site and be prepared to spend some time admiring the western features of the awesome "roost" as well as the course of the North Fork Cache La Poudre River as it tumbles toward its canyon on the north side of Turkey Roost. This is a pleasant, remote location, and its unlikely that you'll encounter other adventurers while you are here! Look above you at the amazing sheer rock faces of Peak 7580. For years I've admired this jagged mountain from the tops of nearby mountains and from the Cherokee Park Road near Trails End. When I planned this hike, I had hoped to hide the cache at this peak's summit. But as my puppy Orizaba and I hiked closer and closer, it became apparent that reaching its top would be more than a rock scramble--and I had left my climbing gear and belaying partner at home! So the cache terrain rating suddenly became "easier" than I'd anticipated! But it will still take some effort on your part to reach this marvelous spot. The entire hike is off-trail, but the approach terrain is relatively gentle.
The cache is a cylindrical jar wrapped in black tape. There is signal bounce off the cliff that soars above it, so I placed it in a specific location that can be easily described. Near GZ note the large Ponderosa Pine tree. On the cliff side of the tree a large rock contacts the tree trunk near its base. On the rock's left side (looking toward the cliff) is a nook. The cache resides in this nook, covered by a number of dead sticks/branches. Be certain to cover it well after you have completed your cache log signing ceremony. Then resume your views of Turkey Roost! I forgot to include a pen or pencil in the container, and would appreciate the first finder to bring and leave one in the cache. Thanks.
