Night Vision Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Merman: The cache has been removed by someone.

All the patches and the box have been taken so for safety I have decided to archive this cache.

I only wish the person who did it would have the decency to contact me to tell me why!

Chris

Geocache Description:

The UK's first dedicated night only cache.

The cache is hidden in an ammo box in heavy foliage cover.
The route to the cache must be done at night using a torch and a handbearing compass.
Your GPS will only get you to the start point, from then on it requires walking on bearings in a pitch black wood. The course is marked with reflective pins at each course change. Interested? Then read on.

Please note: The difficulty terrain rating of this cache is only so high because it is a Night Cache.

To reach the cache you will require 11 sets of bearings. I am going to give you the final 6, but you will need to work out some trivia clues to get the first five bearings.
The clues will need to be done before you leave home to attempt the cache. I suggest that all the answers are on the internet, I checked all my answers online to confirm they were correct.
The course to the cache is not long at only 0.13miles the reason for this is because I felt a longer course in the dark in unusual terrain may lead to accidents.

The Lat Long takes you too a carpark. In the east corner of the carpark is a gate. After entering through the gate the compass takes over.
Bearing 1. Waxy Pope, Sam, Doncaster. Add the years they won and divide by 50 to get the bearing (but what did they win?)
Bearing 2. The date the Napoleonic War started. Divided by 10.
Bearing 3. The age of the Astronomer Royal Sir George Airey on his death.
Bearing 4.The parobolic diameter of the old radio telescope at NRAO Greenbank, West Virginia, USA. Which closed on the 19th July 1999(It came to my attention that the new telescope is a different size)
Bearing 5. The trademark name of the Billboard ALBUM chart in the USA.
Bearing 6. 090 degrees
Bearing 7. 050 degrees
Bearing 8. 040 degrees
Bearing 9. 020 degrees
Bearing 10. 310 degrees
Bearing 11. 240 degrees

Bearing 11 will lead to the cache which is an ammo box with reflective tape on it.
It contains.
First finder prize of a Maglite torch.
New sealed Summer classical music CD
Hi bounce lightball
Squishy keyring
Bottle opener
Lightstick
Footwarmer heatpads
Teddy Bear (Non T&J variety!)

NOTE: If you Take and leave "Treasures could you try to make them Grown up items? I tried to leave mostly items of use to a cacher (Except the ball but it is fun!)

PLEASE NOTE:Because of the type of cache please take extra care to avoid personal injury and always make sure that while caching at night to wear light coloured clothing. (I would suggest that if possible some form of Hi-visibility such as would be used for cycling etc.)
