These days, this cache would probably be best described as an “old-school” style geocache. These types of hides were the norm 3-4 years ago, before you could find a micro hidden within every lamp skirt, parking lot, guardrail or retail business property in WNY.
While hiding it, we were reminded of all of the reasons that we dove headfirst into geocaching in the first place; the long hikes, the animal sightings, the fresh air and the fun of searching through the forest for an ammo can!
This cache is located in beautiful Bond Lake Park on Lower Mountain Road in Sanborn/Lewiston, NY. For the longest and most challenging hike, you can park in the lot near Bond Lake or anywhere near N43.10.911/W078.54.768. Alternate parking can be found in a few other places throughout the park and your journey could be a bit shorter if you find the right place to hike. It's our hope that people chose to actually make a hike out of this one.
Our roundtrip hike was about 1.5 miles. If you’ve found other caches in this park, you’ll remember that a small part of the park shares borders with a private firing range; you may here shots in the distance, but you are in no danger at all. You’re looking for a .50 cal ammo can. Original cache contents include:
