Geocache Description:

An off the beaten track location of historical significance. Placed with the permission of the African American Alliance. Parking available. Bring your own pen. FTF free Chic Fil A coupon and cito bag. Very small trinkets only. Congrats to Jazzmasters for FTF.

In historic Newnan, it was long rumored that this Farmer Street location was a slave/Negro cemetery that had long been forgotten except through oral tradition. Only one headstone marked the burial place of an African American infant named Charlie Burch.  In 1999, a non-invasive scan revealed over 240 probable grave sites, laying to rest the rumor. ABC news reported this find to be one of the largest known slave cemeteries in the US. Now a relocated “shotgun” house run by the African American Alliance serves as a museum to honor those who have long been forgotten.  Do not walk in the cemetery across the street from the museum. The cache is near the museum, which is open for visitors on Wednesdays 9a to 5p at this time. Feel  free to make a donation or become a volunteer. Please visit in daylight hours only. Rumors have it there are spectral events here. **At this time, and for several months prior, the museum has not been open to the public due to county/financial problems. Will repost hours once it is up and running again.**
