Disappeared twice so we changed to smaller camo'd container, Hidden along the Schuylkill River Trail. Suitable for small trade items. BYOP. The cache is NOT near the old boards (with nails) and other debris in the area. PLEASE park at the listed parking coordinates, not in private driveways, along the railroad tracks, etc. One-third mile easy walk or bike ride from the parking area to the cache.
Placed to commemorate the opening of the final section of the Schuylkill River Trail from Pottstown to Reading. We wanted to be the FTP (First to Place) a cache along this route. Armorcast is the name of the company that owned the 750,000-square-foot building (all torn down now including the beautiful, very TALL smokestacks -replaced by an electricity generating station) that housed a military tank factory that operated during World War II and the Korean War. We were told this was the #8 US target if Germany had managed to make bomb runs on the USA during WWII. While many other sections of the Schuylkill River Trail may be more scenic than this, the trail is a pleasant walk or ride, and Birdsboro is a nice place to visit (with many other nearby caches). There is a new interpretive sign near the Armorcast site, near the parking area. The cache is about a quarter mile further up the SRT. There’s a little bit of PI and a few prickles near the cache site, but they can be avoided (at least for now).
