After January 1st, 2006 it will be time for a Road Trip!

I had this in mind before the DeLorme Challenge was up and running but I was not sure how to do it.

I have now got the bugs worked out. Doing the DeLorme challenge also gave me some ideas how to work this cache as well.

As of July 22, 2007, We have dropped a lot of prior cache requirements as well as the Members only.
As of 07-22-07, This cache has been updated. Please reprint or update your PQ.

The numbers posted above are not valid for the cache container.

These numbers will take you to Bend, Oregon where the “97701” zip code is on the map. After you complete this hunt, I will send the numbers for the cache container to you. The final cache will be in the general area of Bend, Oregon.

To get credit for this cache, you must find and log a Small, Regular or Large cache in each of the 36 counties in Oregon. We tweaked the cache page and requirements for finding this cache. You can now use a cache from any year, even finds prior to the start of this cache will do. YOU MUST BUILD A BOOKMARK LISTING OF ANY CACHES YOU WANT TO USE. THE CACHES STILL MUST BE SMALL, REGULAR OR LARGE. NO VIRTUAL OR MICRO CACHES WILL COUNT.

Seeing as we have already found at least one cache in every county, we think others might have already as well.

This cache hunt will continue even after the first year for those out there who do not travel as much as some of us and want to try their hand at it.

Now for some simple Rules:

  • A - You must log a find on any small, regular or large cache in the counties.

  • B - MICRO OR VIRTUAL CACHES DO NOT COUNT FOR A "FOUND IT" LOG.

  • C - Please use a GC.com Bookmark list. The county lines on National Geographic TOPO! Oregon will be the standard we will use for county boundaries. Send us your Bookmark list when completed and we will run it through National Geographic TOPO! Oregon tocheck cache placement.

  • D - We will also retain the right to modify this hunt at any time or as needed to maintain the integrity of the hunt as we intended it.

  • E - We hold the final decision on any and all submissions for a "FOUND IT" log on this cache.

  • F - If a multi-stage cache, puzzle cache, mystery cache, etc, starts in one county and finish's in another, the county the cache is in as listed at geocaching.com is the one we will use.

Hopefully your cache hunt will be trouble free.

Questions? Send me an e-mail.

ONLY COMPLETED BOOKMARK LIST WILL BE USED.

Disclaimer: We retain all rights to this cache. We can and will modify, adjust, tweak, disable or archive this cache at any time without prior notice. Without prior notice we can and will delete any log that does not conform to our intent of this cache hunt . Finding this cache was both a triumph and a disappointment.
Triumph because it was such a great adventure traveling around the state hunting caches.
We watched a car wreck while chasing the Clatsop County cache. and I hit a three point buck with my motorcycle while chasing the Union County.
Many of the caches were hunted while we were riding our motorcycles, most of the Central and eastern counties were hunted in conjunction with our checkpoints hunt to qualify for the Rose City Motorcycle Club's Grand Tour, an activity that we've used for nearly 15 years to show us the truly fun and exciting places around the state.
The disappointment came as we signed the log and realized that though we'd joined a somewhat elite group of Oregon Cachers, we had also graduated from that group that lives with the excitement and anticipation of a hunt in Harney, Wheeler, Curry. and the 32 other counties that they don't live in. What fun the planning of those hunts was! :)

Yes, we did add a few of those caches to our Delorme Challenge bookmark list, but we also left enough out that next year we'll have a spring, summer, and fall full of mini adventures riding to those out of the way places so we can add a smiley to a cache that meets the qualifications set forth by Duck n Deedy.

And tonight as we sit here in a Redmond motel room I realize that as odd as it felt to finally get to sign that log this morning, the Norway Sprint and I are through with the Counting Counties in Oregon challenge, but we've got the ABC, Color, History, and so many more to look forward to.

Thank you Logscaler and Red, this was a great adventure!

I hardly know where to begin because this was such an amazing journey around our state of Oregon. This is the first challenge that we have completed, but certainly not the last. It was so much fun gathering the caches, seeing places we hadn't been before, trying to figure out where to go and how to get there, and on and on. Today we were so excited that we were going for the final, were so delighted to pull up and stop at GZ, sat in the truck and read the log book with stories from other cachers who had completed this same journey. I'm almost sad that this one is finished. Thank you so much to Logscaler and Red for this adventure.

St13pilot and I completed the required cache find for this challenge over the weekend, have sent my list to the cache owners for approval. Hopefully I didn't mess anything up on my list. This is the first challenge we have completed. This game is just too much fun!
