Geocache Description:

This cache was part of the original MML Geotrail.
Celebrating Maryland’s Cities and Towns.

The MML Geotrail and geocoin promotion has ended. However, please look for another MML geocaching project in the future.

The Marshyhope Creek has always played a pivotal role in the lives of residents of the Town of Federalsburg. The creek divides the town in half and flows to the Nanticoke River System. Transportation of goods and services to and from the markets across the creek has made a Federalsburg the crossroads of mercantile on the Delmarva Peninsula.

The Mayor and Council of the Town of Federalsburg have acknowledged the special bond the town shares with the creek by proactively protecting the shorelines against erosion by adopting natural approaches, namely "living shorelines.” Twelve living shoreline projects have been installed, protecting more than a mile of eroding shoreline and creating nearly 110,000 square feet of wetlands. Work is in progress to create future living shoreline projects that help reduce erosion, while creating natural habitats along the creek.

The Greenways Trails improvements along the Marshyhope Creek demonstrate the natural benefits of the living shorelines by providing walking trails with bridges over the newly created marshes. This enables people to understand the dynamics between nature and humans, while enjoying the waterfront area of the Marshyhope Creek as it was hundreds of years ago.

The cache location is about 300 feet off the paved Greenways trail and on public town property. The trail goes behind private property. DO NOT CROSS PRIVATE PROPERTY to get to the cache. Public access is available.
Available parking locations along the Marshyhope Greenways trail:
