This cache is hidden in the Quarry Lakes
Regional Recreation area, part of the East Bay Regional Park District,
in Fremont California.
Quarry Lakes incorporates the historic boundaries of two Mexican
ranchos and the former Mission San Jose lands. Alameda Creek was
the original boundary between Contra Costa and Santa Clara
Counties. Alameda County was carved out of these two counties in
1853 and was named after the creek that drains it.
The quarries for which Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area is
named were established in the mid-19th century. Gravel taken from
the banks of Alameda Creek was used in the construction of the
transcontinental railroad's western section.
The cache itself is hidden just off the Wood Duck Trail, near a
information sign describing the Riparian Restoration that is going
on at this location. Please read this sign to learn to discover
what it means. Please note you are not required to read the sign to
log this cache. This should not be considered a quick drive by as
the closest legal parking to this site is at the Isherwood Staging
Area parking lot off Isherwood Way near Paseo Pardre Parkway. You
can park at this location without fee, proceed down the trail next
to Alameda Creek until you find one of two gates that allow access
into the park. If you go through the parks main gate there is a
$5.00 parking fee, an annual pass to all parks in the East Bay
Regional Park District is available for $50.00.
The coordinate where checked using two GPSr's and were allowed
to settle until they both matched. Initial contents include Steve
