Geocache Description:

This small cache memorizes the golden past and encourages us to embrace change. If you come during the office hours you can best approach this cache through the forest using a path that starts from the old SWING place. NOTE: Be mindful for a beehive close to the cache. Huom! Vielä lisätietona kätköstä noin 10m päässä on ampiaisten pesä maassa puun lähettyvillä. Siitä näytti joku koukkineen maatakin. Pesä on parkkipaikalta tulevan polun ja kätkön välissä.

The small brick building next to the cache used to be called Lola. It was originally built in such a way that the radioactive background within the building was low to support the development of low level radioactive counting. The flagship of that product line is called Quantulus. The maintenance and manufacturing of that product was transferred to Downer's grove in the Chicago area during 2009 as part of PerkinElmer's global business strategy. Wallac Oy is fully owned by PerkinElmer Inc, Waltham, MA. Edit 2023: Company now called Revvity. Jorma Wallasvaara recalls the birth of Wallac Oy: ”When I started the company in 1950 I got a loan of 5000 marks from the bank, only because the bank manager happened to know my farther. He had told my farther to 'straighten out that son of yours. That sort of endeavour is impossible in Finland'”. In 2000 Kari Toivanen summarized direction of the company: "in the '50s Wallac developed precision mechanics, in the '60s was isotope technology in the focus', in the 70's advanced computer technology was integrated with the products', the '80s saw the inception of the chemistry-based business and in the 90's the company started to develop software products as part of the total solutions offered to the customers". During 00's the company has shifted its focus on developing and manufacturing diagnostics systems for screening health of new born babies and pregnant women as well as prediction of the health of the baby to be born. Edit 22.9.13: A company called Telechemistry Oy occupied the building when the cache was placed. The rumor told that their new technology could revolutionize the way human diagnostics is performed but unfortunately they could not make it. Now it is time for softer and less capital requiring business? Reference: Light at work. Wallac Oy, 2000.
