A peaceful 1.5 mile walk through the Tunxis forest on a lesser travelled blue-blazed trail loop in West Hartland, CT.
Falls Brook is a quiet little brook that feeds into the Barkhamsted Reservoir from the Northwest. The trail loop follows the better part of the brook, leading to one of the most serene little waterfalls I have ever seen. This is a very beautiful place.
Although it is one of the CFPA's blue-blazed trail systems, the Falls Brook trail doesn't appear to get many visitors, and the voluntary maintenance seems to be overlooked in favor of the more often used trails nearby. There are many moss covered rocks which are quite slippery. Near GZ may be difficult to almost impossible in the winter months. To make things even more difficult for you, satellite coverage here is TERRIBLE! I have been back on several occasions to check my coordinates, there is a LOT of bounce here due to the rocks and the tree coverage. Don't let that spoil your fun, though!
Follow the blue-blazed trail - you can go either way when you see the "Trail Junction" sign - continuing straight is more direct, but taking a right there is much nicer, as it follows the brook more directly. When you get closer, you will see a sign that will point to the "Scenic View". Look for white blazes that will lead you down where you need to be. Enjoy this place!
The cache is a medium sized Rubbermaid style container.
