View of abandoned homestead and Quail Lake in the distance. Near Intersection of 138 & the Old Ridge Route.
The abandoned wooden house and oil tank were originally owned by the General Petroleum Quail Lake Pumping Station. Crude oil from the oil fields in Taft was heated and pumped to Willow Springs Pumping Station, which in turn moved the oil onward to Mojave.

This cache begins a series of caches along the Old Ridge Route. The Old Ridge Route is closed in the middle just past the Tumble Inn due to storm damage, so it is not possible to travel all the way thru as you once could do. Still it is a pleasant place to get away for the day and now you can get a fair amount of caches in the process. It is anticipated that the Old Ridge Route will be reopened to thru traffic in about a year, once again linking Castaic to Quail Lake Valley.

We drove up to the Lancaster area to start the New Year right with a full day of caching. Very rewarding and stress-free, and the weather and scenery were gorgeous. The log is wet. We dropped off the Johann Sebastian Bug TB. Thanks for the cache!
