"Tarzan And His Mate" (1934)
For us there is only one Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller) and one Jane (Maureen O'Sullivan); the others are all imposters.
The costumes, or lack thereof, predate the enforcement of the "Motion Picture Production Code (Hays Code)" in mid 1934.
"Me Tarzan, you Jane" was NOT a line from one of Edgar Rice Burrough's twenty-four Tarzan novels or even a line from one of the ninety-three Tarzan movies.
It happened after a long day of filming when Johnny Weissmuller saw Maureen O'Sullivan struggling to lift a suitcase into her car. Laughing, he bellowed, "Me Tarzan, you Jane", as he effortlessly swooped up the case and tossed it into the trunk. The cast and crew heard it, thought it was classic, repeated it to their friends and a quote for the ages was born.
