About SideTracked

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users?
SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations.

It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MMs….but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs, PLEASE don’t place a Cache where it could cause alarm!!!

About Swindon Train Station

Swindon railway station opened in 1842 with construction of the Great Western Railway's engineering works continuing. Until 1895, every passing train stopped here for at least 10 minutes to change locomotives. As such Swindon station hosted the first recorded Railway refreshment rooms.

The station was 3 storeys, with the refreshment rooms on the ground floor and the upper floors comprising the station hotel and lounge. The building was demolished in 1972, with today's modern station and office block erected on the site.

The station is served by inter-city services from London Paddington to Bristol and South Wales. Swindon is a major junction, where the old Great Western Railway line to Gloucester and Cheltenham, the Great Western Main Line to Bristol Temple Meads, and the Great Western Railway route to Bristol Parkway and South Wales diverge.

The station is managed by First Great Western. It consists of an island platform containing a buffet, small shop and waiting room. Platform 4 on the down side (westbound track) contains a coffee shop and waiting room.

Located on Station Road, the station is just a 5 minute walk from the central bus station and the town centre. Both long and short term parking are available on site.
