Yes, it is up on the Castle, just shy of 11,000 ft elevation.
Moderate length hike with some scrambling and exposure.
NOTE: the cache has been replaced at a different location on
9/26/05, in a new camo-painted ammobox, and re-primed with The Spur
CachU-Nut. The coordinates aren't too precise, please report you
own! It is about 20 ft shy from the cliffy SW point of the main
peak, or just South of the turnoff to the ledge connecting it with
the saddle between the Main and the Central peaks.
The cache was meant to serve as a home base for Devil
Sam. He trimphantly rode to the summit on the back of DaScorpion.
It definitely helped to have eight clawed legs on this terrain (The
unruly scorpion escaped from Devil Sam in the end, we will place it
after taming and hopefully breeding it) !
A fellow devil, Changeable
Cach-U-Nut #155, had to dismount his steed to get up there

Red
Oval Cach-U-Nut #207 travelled to this cache as well. The spot
has a commanding view of Red Oval's wonderful series of caches
around Pittsburg Lake, and placing Red Oval's personal Cach-U-Nut
here seems to be just right.
It's no wonder then that this cache is in a container labelled
Mixed Nuts. There were also coins, useful goodies, and toys,
including a bunny (hopefully to be retrieved before next Easter
), a rubberband ball, a racing dino,
and perhaps most importantly, a detective figurine which just might
be of help for my
puzzle caches in the area.
The location can be accessed from East and West, but the trail
going East fades away almost as soon as the terrain becomes easy. A
loop from West to East is recommended. Up near the ridge, please
pay close attention to the trail whenever you can see one. It
summits both Eastern and Western towers of the Castle, but bypasses
the Central (lowest) tower on the South side.

Came up from Albion Basin via Cecret Lake. I reached Sugarloaf at sundown about 8 pm and after a minute's consideration decided to go for this one. I had my good headlamp and a 3/4 moon had risen in the southeast. There are some areas where you have to scramble with cliffs dropping to either side. Reminded me of hiking the Angel's Landing trail in Zions. I arrived at the peak at 8:35, just as darkness was really setting in. I got out my headlamp and found the cache quickly. I decided to return to the east. Neither direction looked very inviting in the dark. Made my way down through the steep stuff to the east then continued east keeping to the south of the ridge. It was hard on my ankles, but I couldn't really see a defined trail. I walked to within about 50 feet of a mountain goat before it decided to move out of the way. I crossed to the north side of the ridge where there's a small saddle, then on down to the trailhead.

THAT WAS SOMEWHAT OF A CHALLENGE. I MET TWO YOUNG MEN IN THEIR LATE 20'S COMING OFF THE PEAK AND ASK WHAT THE BEST ROUTE WAS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HADN'T MADE IT TO THEW TOP. THAT WORRIED ME SOMEWHAT, BUT I PROCEEDED AND BAGGED THE PEAK. I APPROACHED FROM THE WEST AND RETURNED THE WAY I'D COME. THE COORDINATES SEEMED TO BE PRETTY CLOSE, OR AT LEAST CLOSE ENOUGH THAT I FOUND IT. MY GPS KEPT GETTING A READING ABOUT 20' FURTHER SOUTH, BUT I WASN'T GOING THERE. THE NEEDLE SEEMED TO JUMP AROUND A BIT, OR MAYBE I WAS SHAKING. THANKS FOR A CHALLENGING CACHE.

After a long day of hiking in the sun for 2 out-of-shape people, we packed it up 400' away. We plan to return before the snow, with shoes and not chacos next time (and perhaps pants). We will do better research on it next time, perhaps making the loop or picking up the cache from the east castle side. Great adventure though.

Found with ZeeJay. I had never been to Devil's Castle before. It looks impossible from a distance, but isn't too difficult if you don't mind some easy scrambling with a lot of exposure. Thanks for placing a cache up there. TNLNSL.

Got this today with lesdubois. First did Sugarloaf, then crossed Devil's Castle ridge from W to E. If you're just going for the cache, coming from the E is the way to go. On the way to the cache went up a couple of things I wouldn't want to go down. In the cache vicinity your coords pointed me someplace I definitely didn't want to go. I was like "Please, not down there!". Fortunately, lefty's coords were a little closer and we found it without doing anything stupid. I was up here once before, 6 or 7 years ago. Thanks for bringing me back to a fantastic location.
