Babno Polje ima v času vojne žalostno tradicijo. Zgodile so se številne grozote. Med njimi je bil pokol na Vražjem vrtcu.

Babno Polje had sad tradition during the war. There were many horrors. Among them was massacre on Vrazji vrtec.

Fašistični tribunal je 29.7.1942 v Babnem Polju s pomočjo domačega izdajalca obsodil na smrt 40 Babnopoljcev. Krvniki so medtem kopali na Vražjem vrtcu 2 jami. Nihče ni niti slutil, kaj se bo drug dan zgodilo.
30.7.1942: obsojene so zvezali in jih odpeljali 4-krat po 10 Babnopoljcev na Vražji vrtec. 4-krat so zagrmele strojnice.
Dan je bil grozen: ženske in starci so jokali, otroci so prosili milosti za življenja svojih očetov.
Iz skupine je stopil en stari moški. Slišal je, da je njegov sin edinec obsojen na smrt. Ponudil je sebe v zameno. Fašisti so prošnji ugodili. Starca so posedli na kamion, sina pa odpeljali na Rab.
Na zadnjem kamionu sta bila tudi dva brata. Med vožnjo se je enemu uspelo nekako iztegnit in vrči eni mladenki v robčku zavezanih 50 lir. Dejal je: "Izroči to moji materi in jo prav lepo pozdravi."
ZAKLAD: morija se je zgodila med drevesi. To morijo je opazoval tudi mlad topol. Ko je topol zrastel, ga je doletela podobna usoda: strela iz neba ga je razpolovila. Sedaj tisto, kar je ostalo od njega, straži zaklad na Vražjem vrtcu in čaka ljudi, da ga pridejo požagat.

On 7.29.1942 fascist tribunal with help of homeland tratior condemned to death 40 villagers from Babno Polje, while persecutors dug in two caves in Vrazji vrtec (it means: Devil's garden). Nobody even suspected what is going to happend next day.
07/30/1942: those, who were sentenced to dead went 4-times at 10 villegers at Vražji vrtec. 4-times they heared machinegun's thunder.
The day was horrible: women and old mens were crying, children were beging for mercy for the life of their fathers.
From the group stepped out one old man. He heard that his son, an only child, was sentenced to death. He offered to take his place. The fascists approve the request. The old man sat in the truck, while his son was sent to Rab.
On last truck there were two brothers. During the journey one of them has somehow managed to stretch out his hand and throw a young woman tissue with 50 lire. He said: "Give this to my mother and say godbye for me."
CACHE:
murder happened among the trees. This murder was watching a young poplar. When the poplar grew, he was hit by a similar fate: lightning in the sky teared him apart. Now what is left of him, it's guarding the treasure on Vrazji vrtec and it's waiting for people to come with saws.
