This area takes its name from the old site of the Woodlawn Elementary School. Historically, the area is also known as "Horseheaven" located on top of "Frazier’s Hill." Both of these names apply to the same hill.
NOTE: There is a Geodetic Survey marker placed nearby with an interesting history regarding the original clay cone marker it replaced. A small hollow earthenware cone, one of about twenty in all, from the country’s first U.S. Geological Survey was placed here in 1839. This earthenware GS marker was lost for over a hundred years before being rediscovered 3 feet underground in 1978 (on the grounds of what was then the elementary school) and is currently on display in the Upper Moreland Library. Drop by and check it out some time if you would like to see one of the "Holy Grails" of benchmarking/geocaching.
