Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 20, 2005 from 5-8 p.m.
for a fun-filled and informative "ABC's of Geocaching Special
Event" to be held at beautiful Mundy Park in Coquitlam.
We'll be meeting in the large parking area east of Spani Pool --
from Austin Avenue, go north on Hillcrest Street to the Hillcrest
Entrance on the west side of Mundy Park. Drive north through the
parking area and follow the road around to the east -- you'll see
us near the end of the parking area! Here's a PDF link for the park
and surrounding area Mundy Park Map
The evening's activities will include:
- Basic how-to's about buying and using a GPS to find
geocaches.
- Using the internet to search for geocaches in your area.
- The ABC's of finding and moving travel bugs.
- Search for actual geocaches specially set up for the event.
There will be BCGA members available to offer tips and hints on
refining your search techniques.
- Watch a demonstration on camoflage painting techniques for
hiding your own geocache.
- A free drawing for lots of cool goodies -- t-shirts, cache
containers, stickers, and other great stuff.
- Hungry? A Costco dog and cold pop will be available all evening
for just a $1.00 donation.
- Membership applications for the BCGA will be available all
evening, too. Each paid membership submitted during the event will
receive a special bonus surprise!
- A fully stocked geocache, complete with logbook and trading
goodies valued at approximately $40.00, will be raffled off at the
end of the event -- each ticket's just a toonie.
Now, for all you "more experienced" geocachers that have read
this far down the page -- you're welcome to come, too! Who knows,
you might learn something new or win some cool swag, and you can
log this event as another "found it" on your geocaching page.
If this sounds like fun, please post a note on this page to let
us know how many in your party will be attending, so we'll be sure
to have plenty of goodies on hand for eveyone. Also, put this cache
page on your watch list so you can be the first to know about
updates as the event plans progress. See you all there!
LATE BREAKING NEWS!
If you have some folding chairs, please bring them to the event!
It looks like there will be lots of people there, and some extra
seating would be appreciated by all! See you
soon...
