Geocache Description:

Hidden on a milestone date for the first finder. Happy Birthday Sis!

The cache is tucked away high above the Hammonassett River, on land owned by the Killingworth Land Conservation Trust. You will follow an orange-blazed trail to an old rope swing site, and then bushwhack up to the cache.

The trail was constructed a number of years ago for a Scout project, and has fallen into disrepair. Please leave the little ones home for this hike. The Land Trust will be improving and extending the trail, which now ends at the swimming hole: 41 21.221 / 72 36.756

Park at the Route 80 bridge and cross the pedestrian span to access the trailhead. The trail can be difficult to follow in places, but since you are hemmed in by cliffs and the river, you cannot really lose your way.

Along the way, you have the opportunity to hunt the Am a Grammy cache, and even the NINEVEH FALLS letterbox.

UPDATE: 03/28/2005 You can now access the site from the south. The hike is longer, but the terrain rating goes down a lot. Look for a trailhead on Bar Gate Trail near 41°20.264 / 72°36.730; Get onto the orange-blazed trail and follow it north along the river. I have not gone in this way, but the Trails Committee Chairperson (Sis) assures me it is passable. You can look for the Close to Home letterbox if use this route.
