in our disclaimer.
You can walk to the cache location ... you don't need to cut through a backyard nor get wet to find it.
NOTE: This cache has been placed with the permission of the South Florida Water Management District.
Chapter 40E-7, Part V, Florida Administrative Code, authorizes you to hike on any SFWMD levees or on other public lands they manage unless there are special rules that prohibit you from being there. You can look up those rules yourself on the SFWMD website at this link: (visit link) Specifically, rule 40E-7.520(4) states in part: "All District lands are hereby deemed open and available to the public for outdoor recreational purposes and access unless otherwise limited, restricted, or prohibited by special provision in this rule."
The levee and the canal on the north side are owned by SFWMD, but the control structure on the west end and the canal on the south side are owned by the City of Plantation. City workers are often out on the levee doing maintenance and may not be aware of the geocache permit or the SFWMD rules that allow you to access it.
If anyone gives you any trouble about this cache or your hunt for it, have them call Jason O'Hara Smith at SFWMD at 305-377-7274 x7233. He's the one who approved the permit and will gladly field any questions or concerns.
