Geocache Description:

Beautiful country, nice easy cache. Poison Ivy nearby, but you will not have to get into it.

The only thing tough about this cache is finding the route to it. The area is red sandstone bluffs, sandy, deep canyons, rough country, with a lot of small spring fed streams. There is not a good road in here, in fact there is only one road close by and it is not very good.

The roads east and west of the cache do not exist. I have no idea why they show up on the map. They may be looking at trails in the pastures, which I have been accused of driving on to get here!

You will encounter pheasant, quail, vultures, hawks, turkeys, all sort of reptiles, including rattlesnakes. The area is loaded with deer, coyotes, raccoons, and about any other small mammal this area has to offer.

If you get very lucky, you might see a horned lizard darting about the area. Today I found my first eastern collared lizard, I had to come home and look him up! I was pretty sure that was what I found, but you know how it goes.

You are looking for an OD green ammo can with off colored spots to cover the yellow printing. The container has four medicated bandaids (just in case) four Blue Bonnevilles, two Policeman's Prayers and the usual notebook, pen and pencil.

I would not recommend driving in here with your Bonneville, I really would not recommend driving in here with any low slung vehicles. I would recommend having four wheel drive, although I made many trips down this road in my half ton two wheel drive pickup. You should absolutely avoid it after a heavy rain or snow. In many parts of the road, the road is the drainage ditch. There are areas of soft sand, do not slow or stop in these areas. If you are new to soft sand, accelerate gently as you enter the sand and only let up enough to keep the tires from spinning.

Nature provided us with a great spot to park near the cache, it is almost as good as concrete! This road was fairly good a few years ago, then we had one of those super cells that visit us here in Kansas. They estimated over 10 inches of rain in one night, in less that two hours actually. Since then it has been a little less than desireable.

I really enjoy this part of Kansas and hope you do too. Like always, be safe, keep your wits about you and have fun! A final note, your cell phone will not work here either.
