Geocache Description:

Fir Island Rookery is a pleasant walk that will provide fantastic views of the Skagit Valley and outstanding opportunities to watch birds. I have never seen as many Herons in one place as I have here. I counted ten when I hid the cache.

This micro cache is a short walk from the parking lot. There is not a pen or pencil in the cache so please bring your own to sign the logbook. Depending on the Route you take to get to the cache you may pass the historic Fir-Conway Lutheran Church. It is the only original building remaining from the town of Fir. Fir Island is a delta of the Skagit River that has been diked and dried. Once it was reclaimed from the river it became some of the most fertile farmland in the region. In the fall and winter this area is a great place to watch Snow Geese, Tunda Swans, and Trumpeter Swans, as well as the birds that patrol the area year round such as Hawks, Eagles, Herons, Meadowlarks, Ducks, etc.
