Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series intended to showcase Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads (W.R.R.). Wisconsin Legislature established the Rustic Roads program in 1973 to preserve what remains of Wisconsin's scenic, lightly traveled roads.

These caches are usually hidden in the right of way at a spot of notable beauty with no bushwhacking required. Please be respectful of private property, protected lands, and the overall history of the area. Take your time, mind your speed, and most of all… enjoy your journey along the road less traveled.

This particular cache is a small container hidden along Rustic Road 17, a paved road in Portage County also known as Otto & Morgan Roads. It begins at its intersection with U.S. Highway 10 and proceeds until its intersection with County Road T. Total length is 2.7 miles.

This scenic route south of Amherst passes through hilly, rugged terrain and forested areas as well as open agricultural areas, offering glimpses of native wildlife. R17 also crosses a boulder-strewn section of the Tomorrow River.

Some friendly tips: Parking off the road is available near GZ, but the slope of the ditch is steep so take caution when pulling over. GZ is at a slight curve in the road, so make sure to pull over in a way so visible to oncoming traffic. I recommend using your hazard lights when parked. Also, there is a private residence close by, so beware of muggles and respect their property. The hide should be available in the winter but getting at it might be more difficult than other times of the year.

Please take care with retrieving and replacing the cache to save the experience for the next cacher. Happy hunting!
