At the site of the cache there is a plaque commemorating the Southland Regional Council on the award.

The IPENZ Environmental Award, sponsored by Shell New Zealand, was an annual award that recognised engineering work that demonstrates consideration of the environment in its design and the way problems were solved, and makes an overall contribution to the environment and public enjoyment. In 1992 the Southland Regional Council won it for the Invercargill Flood Alleviation Scheme.
