Geocache Description:

A "John Masser Memorial" Geocache . . .

Established by the late Banksia777 in 2007, this geocache entrails a challenging walk in the Springwood Area, and is best tackled by more experienced bushwalkers looking for an adventure.

There is no fencing at any lookouts in this area so take care around the cliff lines. Probably not suitable for geo-families or those with younger children in tow.

Banksia777 cautions: "This cache requires a reasonable level of fitness to get to it! Allow 3-4 hours for the entire round trip. Take plenty of water as there’s none fit for drinking in creek below."

The starting point is at Martin’s Lookout. Parking is available at the end of a 1.7 kilometre dirt road.

After a short walk of around 100 metres you'll get to the views.

The cache is roughly 650 metres away from the lookout ‘as the crow flies’ but there’s an approximate 3 kilometre walk to get to it. (You can actually see your destination on the far side.)

From the lookout, take the track to the left. This will lead you down to Glenbrook Creek. As you near the bottom, there’s a track junction marked with a green steel pole with ‘Bunyan Lookout’ written on it. Turn left and take the steep track down to cross over the creek. Once across, head downstream on the Kings Link Track. (A sign is posted high up on a tree. See photo.) A short way along and just past a fallen tree the track splits, take the right track. Almost near the top the climb the track goes thru a gap in a big slab of rock. (Again, see photo.) Turn left at the top and this will take you to Bunyan Lookout.

The track from here, which starts a little south from where you came in, is a good flat track. (Note that there’s no need to go bush, off track, to get to GZ. In fact, it's dangerous to do so!] This will take you around to a track junction, marked with a red post. Then turn right and this will take you to the lookout which bears the name of this cache.

Once you’re there, enjoy the views back over the valleys and down to the creek below. On a clear day you can even see the tall buildings of Sydney CBD.

A short stroll across the rocks or thru some light scrub will take you to the location of cache. It’s well away from the cliff line but care is still needed to get to it. It’s a 2 litre container with the usual log book, a few trinkets and some quality items for swapping.

Now for the walk back!

(Many thanks to our late friend Banksia777.)
