FantasticCat: Not geocaching anymore so best to archive and free space up for new series. Sorry if poor maintenance has led to problems. Will collect caches still there when next in area. Thanks.

Geocache Description:

Down a short bank by the New River, accessible from the grass path

The New River is a man-made waterway, that was created in 1613, to provide fresh water for London from the River Lee. It still provides that purpose today. It starts near Ware in Hertfordshire and ends in Stoke Newington, 20 miles away.
This cache is placed near where the New River passes over Pymmes Brook. Very close to here the New River used to travel around a long loop towards Arnos Grove following the natural contours to maintain gradient. By 1850 there was a need to increase the flow of water and the loop was shortened.
This is a new (unused!) specimen container that has been cammoed. It is quite delicate so please remove and replace carefully. You will probably need a pencil to 'twirl' the log out.
A yellow etrex was used to take the original co-ords. We have now updated them using an oregon.
A garnet gemstone has been left for the FTF (or second to find if the FTF is a prize enough!)
