The Japanese leveling started from this ground in 1872.
Japanese Government invited the civil engineers from the Netherlands in 1872.
I.A.Lind(1848-1941) who is one person of them began leveling from here for river plan creation.
As a result of Lind's survey, the height of the zero point of the water level of the Edogawa River was made into Y.P. ("Yedogawa Peil"-Dutch,Yedogawa Basing Level), and installed the stone marker here.
Y. P. is used even now which has passed in 130 or more.

日本の水準測量は1872年、この地からスタートしました。
明治政府は、明治5年(1872)、オランダから水工技師団を招きました。
そのうちの1人、リンド(I.A.Lindo、1848〜1941)は河川計画作成のための第一歩として、この地で水準測量を始めました。
測量の結果、江戸川河口の水位のゼロ点の高さをY.P.(Yedogawa Peil)とし、標石を設置しました。
Y.P.は、130年以上経った現在も江戸川の水位基準となっています。
