Geocache Description:

This event will start out at the Ryans Restaurant in Elizabethtown on Saturday, November 11 at 9am. After a Hearty breakfast we will drive 6 miles East of Elizabethtown for a 3-mile geocaching hike in the woods.

Just what is a Trailmix? If you have not had a chance to take a trailmix up in Indiana with the INDGO group, it is a cache hike where hikers of deferent skills gather together and take a hike; the more experienced hikers lead the pack and will wait up for the novice hikers. We will take many breaks along the way, so there will be plenty of times to catch your breath. This kind of hike is enjoyable to young and old alike. I like to say that the goal is a good time not who gets there first or you could say Slow and Steady Wins the Race.

After our Breakfast we will gather in the Ryans parking lot around 10am for the drive down to the Youngers Creek hiking area. The Hardin County government bought this area as a buffer zone and nature preserve for the nearby Pearl Hollow Landfill. A local mountain bike group using state and county money has developed the first ridge with hiking and mountain bike trails. This is where we will hike. We will start off on the lower Youngers Creek trail that goes along the valley and eventually winds its way up to the top of the ridge. From there we will follow the TT trail back to the most Northern part of the ridge where we will descend the hill via switchbacks back to where we started our hike.

After the hike we will give you the 4 coordinates for the late Great Pumpkin Event Cache. If you have search for the Great Pumpkin before, you will know that he only is at one of the posted coordinates. All four coordinates will be relatively close to the parking area so this one will not be too hard.

After the great pumpkin, Turtle3863 will gather the few brave soles that want to go out on the outer ridge to pick up some of the hardest caches in the area. Be warned, there are no trails on the second ridge and you will be in for a major hike, so do not try this one unless you are prepared.

With either or all the hikes make sure you take plenty of water and a snack for the trail. Long pants and hiking boots are also a good idea.
